BELMAR, NJ — The greater Belmar community is rallying around a major fundraiser on Friday, November 22 that will benefit an effort to construct a full-size basketball court on the grounds of Belmar Elementary School.

Billed as an adults' night out, “Swoosh, There It Is!” will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. at Beach Haus Brewery in its spacious upstairs taproom, overlooking Main Street at Eighth Avenue.

A $40 ticket includes one free drink, all food compliments of Brandl restaurant, as well as dessert from Sweet!, Main Street Donuts and Spring Lake Manor. There also will be karaoke, an extensive gift auction, a 50/50 raffle and a cigar bar.

So far, there are 120 gift baskets wrapped and ready for the gift auction, said Antoinette Raucci, who’s been instrumental in spearheading the effort of the Belmar Elementary PTO.

“We still have another 20 or more to go,” she said, referring to the prizes. “The businesses in town have been extremely generous, as well as those in surrounding towns.”

Some of the larger prizes that have been donated include Disney Theme Park Hopper and professional sports tickets, Coach handbags and free rounds of golf at several area courses.

Nearly $10,000 has been raised toward the estimated $65,000 project, including through the sale of more than 120 tickets to Friday’s event and through snowballfundraising.com.

Last year, BES student body placed a basketball court on the top of their wish list for the school, prompting the Belmar PTO to make a major push to bring one to the school’s playground.

The court, to be situated in the far corner of the school’s playground near Railroad Avenue, will be used for gym class, recess and after-school activities. The design will also feature other games, including the playground favorite, Four Squares, according to the PTO.
