LAKE COMO, NJ — Lake Como residents can now join the Belmar Senior Club at no cost to them.
The borough will pay the $50 registration cost for any resident age 65 and older who wants to be part of the club, which offers a full array of amenities throughout the year. At the Belmar Community Center/Library Annex at 503 Seventh Avenue in Belmar, there is a full monthly calendar of card games, exercise classes, special events and regular visits by a member of the Belmar Police Department.
In addition, the center’s VIP room for seniors is a popular gathering spot, where there are coffee and light refreshments, information on programs and activities, and large sofas and chairs for watching television. It is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
A monthly highlight is the senior luncheon, typically held on Wednesday at Taylor Pavilion with a full meal brought in by a local eatery, and served up by volunteers and borough employees. Seniors are usually asked to bring a specified item as a donation to a local food bank.
Next month’s luncheon on May 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. will feature a Mexican theme — in celebration of Cinco de Mayo — with festive fare provided by 10th Ave Burrito Company.
Lake Como seniors are welcome to attend the senior luncheon, where they will be asked to register. Please bring proof of residence. They also can join at the Belmar Municipal Building, 601 Main Street, Belmar, between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Please ask for Mary Brabazon, who can be reached at 732-681-3700, ext. 214.
