BELMAR, NJ — Belmar will hold its annual Veterans Day services on Monday, November 11 at 9 a.m. at Monument Row, located on Main Street between 12th and 13th Avenues.
Following the service, the Belmar Historical Society will provide refreshments in the Belmar Municipal Building’s courtroom, accessible from the Sixth Avenue entrance off Main Street.
On Wednesday, November 13, a USS Juneau Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, located at 600 13th Avenue on the corner of E Street.
The service will honor the four Belmar men who lost their lives when the USS Juneau was sunk at the Battle of Guadacanal in the South Pacific during World War II. The men — Robert Sherman, Joseph McConnell, Alfred Ferruggiano and Francis Class Jr. — were among 687 men killed when the cruiser sank after it was struck by torpedoes fired from a Japanese submarine on November 13, 1942.
