FREEHOLD, NJ — Preapplications to get into the Monmouth County rental assistance lottery are available online only through Friday, June 21.
The Monmouth County Public Housing Agency (MCPHA) is offering Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV), formerly called Section 8 vouchers, to potential tenants, including low-income families, as well as the disabled and the elderly.
The preapplication can be access by visiting www.VisitMonmouth.com, where there is a click-on link on the righthand side of the page labeled, “HCV Preapplication.” It lists eligibility information on the first page, followed by a fillable form.
Letters indicating selection for the waiting list will not be sent until August 15. Applicants not selected will not receive a letter and their preapplication will be discarded.
The Division of Social Services, which oversees MCPHA, will not return phone calls regarding application status and the wait list.
The Affordable Housing Alliance offers free assistance to anyone without internet access. It can be reached by calling 732-389-2958.
As part of the Division of Social Services, MCPHA was authorized by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to provide rent subsidies to Monmouth County residents on July 5, 1977.
