BELMAR, NJ — Despite all the “llama drama,” Belmar’s Anthony Fontanez last night made it to the next round of the “Kids Baking Championship.”

In the show’s January 28 episode, the 12-year-old was among nine contestants who came up short in creating a dozen of cupcakes decorated with llama faces. Even Fontanez’s cupcake tops looked more like bunnies.

“Everyone’s cupcakes don’t look like llamas, so it’s going to come down to taste,” he said.

And judges Duff Goldman and Valerie Bertinelli agreed, giving Fontanez props for his lime-flavored cupcakes filled with homemade cherry jam. He created the faces with butter cream frosting and gum paste, and placed them in a crumble of chocolate wafer cookies and green butter cream grass.

The fifth round of the competition will debut on Monday, February 3 with the remaining eight contestants create llama cupcakes in a chosen flavor.

The contestant who remains standing after 10 elimination rounds of baking challenges will be named Kids Baking Champion, earning $25,000 and a feature in Food Network Magazine.
