BELMAR, NJ — A 48-year-old motorcyclist was critically injured in a motor vehicle accident that occurred yesterday afternoon on the Route 35 bridge over the Shark River, according to the Belmar Police Department.
The Neptune man, whose name was not released, was traveling south on the highway on June 23 when “he went down on his motorcycle,” said Belmar Police Chief Andrew Huisman in a statement.
Belmar police responded to the 911 call at 12:50 p.m., and was assisted by the Belmar First Aid Squad, Belmar Fire Department, and the Neptune Township Police Department and Office of Emergency Management.
The victim was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune City, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit, the statement continued.
The bridge, which connects Belmar and Neptune City, was closed to traffic for a brief time after the incident, according to traffic reports.
The crash is under investigation by the Belmar Police Department Detective Bureau and Traffic Safety Unit.
