BELMAR, NJ — Enjoy the many tastes of the town during Belmar’s 12th Annual “Dine & Discover” Food Tour and Tasting, to be held on Sunday, March 8.

From 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., more than 30 food establishments and counting will serve up samples of their favorite fare — a bounty of tasty selections that will showcase this Jersey Shore community’s diverse culinary scene.

From the boardwalk and the marina to the downtown district and destinations nestled in between, Belmar has plenty to savor when it comes to food choices. And there’s no better way to explore them than one bite at a time during the "Dine & Discover" Tour.

In this first in a series of special features on the food tour at the shore, here’s a look at participating restaurants along one of Belmar’s most popular and picturesque destinations — the beachfront.

La Dolce Vita, 400 Ocean Avenue

Known for its spectacular ocean views, La Dolce Vita offers a menu of fresh seafood and Italian specialties with a full service bar. The fine dining restaurant is owned and operated by Giuseppe Salpietro and his nephew, Nick Fuccilli, who shares what specialties will be on the tour menu in the video below:

La Terrazza, 408 Ocean Avenue

La Terrazza is La Dolce Vita’s sister restaurant, offering a more casual dining atmosphere with an outdoor bar and covered patio, just steps from the surf and sand. Its family-style menu boasts authentic rustic Italian dishes made with the freshest ingredients, including appetizers, salads, brick oven pizza and flatbreads and pasta, as well as meat and seafood entrees with that home-style appeal.

Playa Bowls, 803 Ocean Avenue

It’s always summer at Playa Bowls — the original acai shop offering superfruit bowls, smoothies, juices, among so many of other healthy options. Since owners Robert Giuliani and Abby Taylor set up a pop-up stand along Ocean Avenue in 2013 with two blenders, a table and plenty of fruit, Playa Bowls has become a superfood sensation with more than 80 locations nationwide. For the tour, it will be giving out samples of acai, pitaya, green and coconut-based creations.

Jimmy’s Place, 804 Ocean Avenue

Even bigger than the larger-than-life personality of owner Jimmy Kumaras is the menu you’ll find at Jimmy's Place — Belmar’s beachfront diner that’s easily recognized by its bright red awning and where breakfast is served all day long.

For this year’s restaurant tour, Kumaras plans on having samples of just about everything on that menu: pizza, clam chowder, overstuffed deli sandwiches and wraps, as well as his latest creation — the Cal-ZONE, a mixture of shrimp scampi and lobster stuffed into dough and deep fried. The calzone debuted with rave reviews at last year’s Belmar Seafood Festival.

To get everyone around town, trolley service will be offered at spots along the tour route, including La Dolce Vita on Ocean Avenue, Klein’s Fish Market & Waterside Café on River Road, Joe’s Surf Shack on 18th Avenue, Bar Anticipation on 16th Avenue, Pyanoe Plaza on Eighth Avenue and Mr. Shrimp on Route 71.
