BELMAR/LAKE COMO, NJ — A tropical storm warning is in effect until further notice as Tropical Storm Fay continues to churn northward and is expected to reach the New Jersey coast by mid-morning.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm could produce up to five inches of rain in the region through late afternoon, with wind gusts of up to 45 mph through tonight, July 10. There is also the chance of an isolated tornado, particularly across eastern New Jersey, the service said.

In addition, a flash flood watch is in effect until 8 p.m. today, and dangerous rip currents are expected through today as well.

Minor coastal flood is possible. High tide along the Belmar beachfront will be at 12:09 p.m. and along the Shark River at about 12:12 p.m. today.

Today Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 77. East wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between two and three inches possible.

Tonight: Tropical storm conditions expected. Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 11 p.m., then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 74. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Saturday: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 83. Southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 74. Southwest wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday: A slight chance of showers between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Sunny, with a high near 84. West wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
