BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Nearly 25 kids tried their hand at fencing on Fantastic Friday at Governor Livingston, courtesy of GL Fencing coach Michael Wang and the Highlander fencing team.
After learning proper stance and practicing with a partner, the group of 5- to 15-year-olds strategized different ways to get close enough to their opponent in order to score a touch without giving their opponent a chance to do the same.
Members of the GL boys and girls fencing teams loaned their fencing jackets, masks, gloves and weapons. They also provided guidance as the interested youths tried fencing different partners for the first time.
Judging from the smiles on their faces, the children had a fun time learning about one of the oldest Olympic sports.
