Overlook Medical Center in Summit became the classroom-for-a-day for more than 100 elementary school children on Thursday’s national “Take Your Child to Work Day.”

Students learned from medical professionals in physical therapy and sports medicine, emergency medicine and the operating room, first responders, infection prevention, pet therapy, and food service.

Among the many activities were fitness challenges and cooking demonstrations, training with a team of dogs from pet therapy, learning about infection prevention and the importance of proper handwashing, practicing CPR and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), touring emergency response vehicles, and observing a medical helicopter landing.

As Atlantic Health System is the Official Health Care Partner of the NY Jets, the guest surprise during dessert was NY Jet’s cornerback Darryl Roberts.  He gave an entertaining talk that spurred many interesting questions from the students.  The day concluded with autographs and photos with the football star.
