BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Dancers now have a new home away from home in Berkeley Heights with the opening of Accents Dancewear.

Mary Jane and Ken Kantro recently opened their shop, Accents Dancewear, on Springfield Avenue next to Primrose School and the incoming Mara's Bakery.

After 20 years of owning Kidding Around in New Providence, they decided to open a store in this new Berkeley Heights location to follow their growing niche in dance, gymnastics and swimwear.

Ten years ago, we started bringing dancewear into Kidding Around, said Mary Jane. "We brought in one tap shoe, one ballet shoe and one leotard from Danskin."

The demand started growing and they added inventory with more vendors and styles. "Basically, it took over half of the store, so we expanded more into dance," said Mary Jane.

With the end of their New Providence lease approaching, the Kantros explored the opportunity to do something different and cater to their growing business in dancewear. "We are now strictly a dance, gymnastics and swimwear store," said Mary Jane.

The store carries a large selection of brands from toddler sizes to adult XL: Capezio, Danskin, Bloch, Grishko, GK Elite, Snowflake, Body Wrappers, Eurotard, Speedo and Roxy, to name a few. Whether you're shopping for your child's dance studio dress code or a gift for that special dancer in your life, they will help you find everything you are looking for.

"We offer several items for every type of dancer: Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Pointe, Lyrical, Modern, Contemporary, Cheerleading, and Gymnastics," said Mary Jane. They can provide everything from class basics such as dance shoes, leotards, dance skirts, tutus, sweaters, tights, and bags, to performance essentials like hair nets, body liners. bun builders, gifts with jewelry holders, earrings, make up, eye lashes, lip gloss, hair and body glitter, and car magnets.

Accents is one of the only area stores that have specially trained Pointe shoe fitters."We go through extensive training from the three companies to fit dancers properly," said Mary Jane. This is a niche business that Mary Jane has been expanding over the past two years, spending over an hour with each dancer trying on many shoes.

Accents offers in-store specials that change every week. Visit their store at 258 Springfield Avenue in Berkeley Heights; for more information, visit www.accentsdancewear.com or call (908)508-1860.
