CRANFORD – The Union County College Foundation recently welcomed five new community leaders to serve on their Board of Trustees. Union County College Foundation Executive Director Doug Rouse is pleased with the appointments, believing that…” we have five citizen leaders who will bring fresh perspectives to the Trustees in their service to the Foundation and Union County College.”
Alan Haveson, of Berkeley Heights, is currently retired, but spent many years as the owner and operator of Eastern Bearing, the largest independent bearing and power transmission products distributor in the New Jersey/New York/Eastern Pennsylvania metropolitan area and of Lee Controls, a manufacturer of precision linear shafting and related precision linear motion bearing, and component products in Piscataway, New Jersey. Mr. Haveson also participates in many civic roles such as Trustee at Temple Emanu-el in Westfield, NJ; President of the Power Transmission Distributors Association; Member of the Planning Board in Watchung, NJ; Board Member of Stonegate Townhome Association in Watchung, NJ; Vice-President and Treasurer of the Monterey Towers Homeowners Association in Watchung, NJ; Member of Central Jersey SCORE; and serves as current President of the New Jersey Technology & Manufacturing Association. Mr. Haveson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Seton Hall University.
Patrick Scanlon, of Union, is Vice President Commercial Banking and Director of Government Relations of ConnectOne Bank. He is a former mayor and township committeeman for the township of Union; is a three time winner of the Union Center National Bank Presidential Award for Excellence; and was the founder/director of Genesis Drug and Alcohol Recovery Program at the former Union Hospital. Mr. Scanlon has also served as the President of the Union Township Board of Health; as Vice Chair of the Union Public Library Board of Governors; as Vice Chair of the Township of Union Special Improvement Business District; and was the founder of the Irish American Society of Union. Many local residents may know Mr. Scanlon from his involvement with the Union County St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee. He has served as their Treasurer since its inception.
Michael Duffy, of Pompton Plains, is currently employed as the Senior Director, North American Operation for Celgene. In his capacity, he manages a staff of over 200 employees in engineering, life sciences, and consumer related industries. He is also an accredited Master Coach and is certified to provide leadership to executive level personnel within the organization. Mr. Duffy has participated in several Habitat for Humanity builds, including in other states, and was President of the high school parents Soccer Association, a non-profit, self-funded association that provided scholarships to graduating seniors. Mr. Duffy holds an Associate in Applied Science degree in electronics from Union County College; he holds a bachelor of science degree in Industrial Technology from Montclair State University; and he has a master’s in business administration in management from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Deborah Enix-Ross, of Westfield, is the Senior Advisor, International Dispute Resolution Group of Debevoise & Plimpton, LLP of New York, NY. As the senior advisor, she is responsible for managing lawyers in international dispute resolution, intellectual property and privacy/data protection. She previously served as the Senior Legal Officer, Head, Information and External Relations Section, for World Intellectual Property Organization – Arbitration and Mediation Center in Geneva, Switzerland. In this role she advised lawyers, companies and business associations on the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution to resolve intellectual property disputes, especially trademarks, patents, licensing, franchising, and copyrights. Ms. Enix-Ross has a bachelor of arts degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Miami; a certificate in international law from the London School of Economics; a Juris Doctorate from the University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables, FL; and a diploma in comparative law from Columbia University – Parker School of Foreign and Comparative Law, New York, NY. She also serves as the Chair of the American Bar Association’s Center for Human Rights and as an officer for the Bar Issues Commission of the International Bar Association. She is a member of the New York Bar and the United States District Court.
Sandra D. Rice, of Plainfield, is Senior Vice President, Eastern Region and National Recruitment for the Emma L. Bowen Foundation. Her primary responsibilities include organizational development and planning. As SVP, she recruits minority high school and college students to work in multi-summer paid internships at media companies (including NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, ESPN, HBO and Warner Bros) throughout the United States. Prior to joining the Emma L. Bowen Foundation, Ms. Rice was the Marketing Manager for ABC Daytime and was responsible for the marketing and promotion of programs including All My Children, General Hospital and One Life to Live. Ms. Rice personally served two consecutive terms as National President of the Alliance for Women in Media (formerly the American Women in Radio & Television) located in Washington, DC. She is also a former co-chair for the Annual Gracie Allen Awards held in Los Angeles, California. Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors for the Center for Great Expectations in Somerville, New Jersey; the Advisory Board for Embrace Kids Foundation in New Brunswick, New Jersey and as Vice President for the Friends of Plainfield Public Library in Plainfield, New Jersey. Ms. Rice has a bachelor degree in journalism, radio and television from San Jose State University and a master’s degree in media studies from The New School in New York, NY. She was also selected amongst outstanding business leaders to attend the executive program at Simmons Graduate School of Management in Boston, Massachusetts and later served on their Alumni Board.
