The NJ Sharing Network Foundation, the philanthropic arm of NJ Sharing Network, the non-profit organization responsible for recovering organs and tissue for transplant in New Jersey for the nearly 5,000 patients waiting for a life-saving organ, is now accepting applications for the Benjamin R. Chirls Scholarship.

Applications can be found on the home page of NJ Sharing Network’s website at www.NJSharingNetwork.org. The deadline for college scholarship applications is Friday, May 23, 2014

The scholarship grants a student $4,000 ($2,000 per semester) for the 2014-2015 academic year.  It is granted annually to students touched by organ and tissue donation. These may include members of donor families, transplant recipients and living donors, as well as their families, individuals who are currently waiting for a transplant, and those who have worked to raise awareness about organ and tissue donation.

The Benjamin R. Chirls Scholarship is named in memory of Benjamin R. Chirls, a kidney recipient and strong advocate for organ and tissue donation.

“We are pleased to be able to award this scholarship annually to a New Jersey student who has been impacted in some way by organ and tissue donation and transplantation,” said Elisse Glennon, executive director of the NJ Sharing Network Foundation. “By doing so, we help further the college education of a student who has demonstrated a commitment to organ donation awareness and helping others.”

To learn more, get involved and register as an organ and tissue donor, visit www.NJSharingNetwork.org or call NJ Sharing Network at 1-800-742-7365.
