MORRISTOWN, NJ – Summit's Overlook Medical Center is one of two Atlantic Health System hospitals named among America's Best Hospitals by Healthgrades, a Denver, CO-based industry research company that compiles and maintains a comprehensive database of information on physicians, hospitals and healthcare providers.

The 2018 honor marks the second straight year Overlook has received the designation.

In addition to Overlook's ranking, Atlantic Health's Morristown Medical Center was ranked among America's 50 Best Hospitals for the third-consecutive year (2016-18). Overlook and Morristown Medical Centers are the only New Jersey hospitals to named on either list.

The distinction places Morristown Medical Center in the top one percent and Overlook Medical Center in the top two percent of hospitals in the nation for clinical performance. Atlantic Health System hospitals were recognized out of 69 eligible hospitals in the New York-New Jersey area, a geographic region defined by the federal government’s Office of Management and Budget.

“Morristown Medical Center’s recognition as of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for the third year in a row is continued assurance to our communities of our clinical team’s commitment to safety, coordination of care, and positive outcomes,” said Trish O’Keefe, PhD, RN, president of Morristown Medical Center. “The mark of a true leader, though, is to never stay complacent, and as the only hospital in the state named one of ‘America’s 50 Best Hospitals,’ we will continue to lead by example and deliver the best possible care to our communities in our healing environment.”

“Overlook’s recognition, not once, but two years in a row, as one of ‘America’s 100 Best Hospitals’ is a clear indicator to our patients, their families and our community that Overlook is where to turn to for high quality, compassionate care,” said Alan Lieber, president of Overlook Medical Center. “The advances in technology, recruitment of world-class providers and creation of centers of excellence in the last year alone have helped us stand out among hospitals in New Jersey and the nation.”

Based on statistics of MedPAR data for the years 2014 - 2016 and three-year estimates for Medicare patients only,  patients treated in hospitals achieving Healthgrades America's 50 and 100 Best Hospitals Award had better clinical outcomes than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive this award, as measured across 19 rated conditions and procedures where mortality is the outcome.*

“As consumers take an active role in managing their health, they can have confidence that hospitals that have achieved the America’s 50 Best and 100 Best Hospital Award stand above the rest,” said Brad Bowman, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “We commend these recipients for delivering exceptional quality care to their patients.”
