BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ – Two Republican newcomers, Peter Bavoso and Manuel Couto, will run for council in November. The two defeated Councilman Ed Delia’s bid to run for a third term.

Couto garnered 751 votes, while Bavoso earned 725 and Delia 543 in the Republican Primary contest on June 7.

No one in the Democratic party filed to run for council, but Stephen Yellin mounted a last-minute successful write-in campaign and received 73 votes. Kendra Newman received 13 write-in votes, so there will be two Democrats on the ticket.

Democrat Hillary Clinton received 730 votes to Bernie Sanders 396.

Republican Donald J.Trump, the presumptive nominee for president, received 973 votes. John Kasich garnered 349 votes and Ted Cruz 65.

In the race for nomination to run for Congress, incumbent Leonard Lance received 627 votes and defeated David Larsen, who had 435 votes and Craig P. Heard, who had 66 votes.  Democrat Peter Jacob, who was unopposed,received 759 votes.

There were no contested races for Freeholder in either party.
