CHATHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ - Registration is now being taken for Beginner Bridge Instruction at the Senior Center of the Chathams to be held on Tuesdays from 10-12:30 beginning February 2, 2016. Chatham resident, Rick Hartley will be instructing the group and promises that “not only will students learn to play the game but will have a lot of fun doing it!” The cost is $5 per class. The series will run for at least eight sessions. Those new to the game or rusty players will learn the elements of Modern Bridge bidding and play of the hand. Players will be asked to purchase the book Modern Bridge, Bidding and Play of the Hand for $15. Students new to bridge will be encouraged to start playing on their own after the 7th lesson as these first 7 lessons will cover the material equivalent to that utilized by most “social” bridge players. To encourage students to utilize their new knowledge, Rick runs a bridge game on alternate Thursdays where students can practice their new skills and meet other bridge players.
Rick has been teaching bridge at the Senior Center and Four Seasons in Warren. The students appreciate his enthusiasm, knowledge and ability to explain the game in simple terms. An avid bridge player since a teen, Rick not only has a great understanding of bridge and the benefits derived from it, but enjoys teaching in general.
The classes are open to all adults regardless of place of residence. Class size is limited so early registration is recommended. Please call the Senior Center at (973)635-4565 to register. The Senior Center is located in the Chatham Twp Municipal building at 58 Meyersville Rd. Our Senior Bus is available for transportation.
