BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The Berkeley Heights Fire Department responded to a report of a natural gas leak at Horseshoe Road and Mountain Avenue this morning, June 3.
A police officer detected the smell as he drove by the site and dispatched the fire department along with PSE&G.
The fire department found high readings at the valve boxes from their equipment and some seepage into the earth but the gas dissipated according to a statement to NJ.com by Chief Jim Hopkins. There was no seepage into any other infrastructures that they could tell according to the statement.
The fire department was released from the scene around 11 a.m., after PSE&G arrived.
The incident was reported to the New Jersey Department Environmental Protection.
