BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Berkeley Heights PAL 10U A travel softball team earns a 2-0 shutout victory against Cranford on opening day.

A pair of aces helped deal BH to an opening weekend victory over perennial powerhouse Cranford. Fifth grade ace Kristen McConekey took the hill to start the game and pitched three shut-out innings striking out seven.

Kristen was backed up by solid defense, including a spectacular diving play by fourth grade first baseman Savannah Levine.

In the fourth inning BH went to flame throwing fifth grader Olivia Magliacano. Liv threw three shut-out innings striking out 9.

The Cranford pitchers matched Berkeley Heights zero for zero through four innings. With one out in the bottom of the fifth, fourth grader Elise Faxon ripped a single. The next batter up was Magliacano, Liv crushed a fastball for an opposite field home run which put the score at 2-0.

BH retired Cranford in order in the top of the sixth to clinch the 2-0 win.

The "sweet swinging" girls from Berkeley Heights will look to build on the opening weekend victory when they face rivals Westfield and Chatham next weekend.
