BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ – Local Berkeley Heights business owners learned about resources to help small businesses offered by the Berkeley Heights Public Library at a local business appreciation evening hosted by the Board of Trustees of the Library on Thursday evening. Some of the business owners in attendance included Jim DiMaio, owner of Derco Office Supplies; Etya Novick, owner of Respira Salt Wellness Center; Midge Vicendese from Berkeley Hardware; Julianne Simmons of Investors Bank, Marcella Gencarelli from Hilltop Community Bank, and Lori Cicali from Allstate.
Before the program officially began, Stephanie Bakos, Director of the Library, publicly thanked the Rotary Club of Berkeley Heights for donating funds from its Fall pancake breakfast so that the Library could install new carpeting in the meeting room. Pam Steiner, President of the Rotary Club, accepted a certificate of appreciation, on the Club’s behalf.
After a welcome from Karin Miller, President of the Library’s Board of Trustees, Anne DeFuria, head reference librarian, discussed some of the resources available to Berkeley Heights business owners including databases, online job training, online computer training, and other programs including the Small Business Resources Center, which helps with everything from marketing to writing a business plan to franchising and much more. All of these databases and resources can be accessed through the Library’s website at www.bhplnj.org All business owners need to take advantage of these opportunities is a Berkeley Heights Library card, which they can obtain at the Library for no charge.
Local business owners and their employees can also visit the Library to use the internet; for word processing and printing, and free Wi-Fi, among others. Reference Librarian Ellen Zander showed attendees how they can download the new Library phone app to use the Library’s website and other features. Zander also explained that the Library has access to 5,000 ebooks that Library users can download.
