"Departures," winner of the 2009 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, will be shown Thursday, August 19 at 7 p.m. at the Berkeley Heights Public Library, 290 Plainfield Avenue.
A Japanese cellist answers a classified ad entitled "Departures," thinking it is an advertisement for a travel agency. He discovers that the job is actually for an encoffineer, a funeral professional who prepares deceased bodies for burial and entry into the next life. "Departures" is rated PG-13, runs 130 minutes, and is in Japanese with English subtitles.
