Local pet parents offered free “pets inside” decals to alert first responders to pets in the home

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The Berkeley Heights Volunteer Rescue Squad has received a donation of two sets of specially designed pet oxygen masks from at-home pet services provider Canine Company.  Now the squad will have a set on each ambulance so rescuers can deliver oxygen to pets in need on the scene of house fires and other emergencies.

Family pets are at special risk during a home fire because they are unable to leave the house without help. An estimated 40,000 die each year from smoke inhalation. The cone-shaped pet masks are designed for a pet’s snout, which human masks do not fit.

"BHVRS is so grateful to the Canine Company for donating the pet oxygen masks.  Now we are able to provide oxygen assistance to all our residents of Berkeley Heights during emergencies," said Toni Gestone, Training Lieutenant of BHVRS.

To ensure rescuers know there are pets in a home, Canine Company is offering free “Pets Inside” decals to local pet parents. To request a decal, go to https://www.caninecompany.com/topic/petdecal.aspx.

Canine Company is on a mission to get the pet oxygen masks into the hands of first responders in all the communities where its clients live. In the past year alone, Canine Company has donated the mask kits to fire departments and first aid squads in more than 80 communities across New England, New York and New Jersey.

“Our company was founded by a family of pet lovers and our mission is to help other families keep their pets healthy, safe and happy,” said Renee Coughlin of Canine Company.

“Our goal is to get these in to the hands of first responders wherever our clients live so they are ready to handle an emergency involving family pets,” she added.

The Berkeley Heights Volunteer Rescue Squad is an all-volunteer squad that has been serving the citizens of Berkeley Heights and neighboring communities since 1942.  The squad is on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year-round. It depends upon donations for most of its operating funds.  For more information, or to donate, visit http://bhvrs.org.

Canine Company provides at-home pet care products and services including the Invisible Fence® brand pet containment systems and Manners obedience training to pet parents across New Jersey, New York and New England.  Through its Canine Gives campaign, the company supports pet rescue and provides pet oxygen masks to first responders. For information, visit www.caninecompany.com or call 800-818-3647.
