BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Helen Kirsch was honored with a proclamation from the Township of Berkeley Heights on Tuesday, Nov. 24, for her dedication to to the Board of Education.

Mayor Robert Woodruff called Kirsch to the front of the room and read the official proclamation which honors the woman who was named New Jersey's 2015 School Board Member of the Year by the New Jersey School Board Association.

Kirsch, a lifelong resident of the township, was elected to the Board of Education in 1983 and has served on the board since that time, 32 years. She served as its president from 1989 to January 2007 and was chosen again as president in January 2013. She continues to serve in that capacity.

Kirsch smiled throughout the reading, thanked everyone for their support and said, "I love Berkeley Heights."   She received a standing ovation from officials and members of the audience.

Watching from the audience were her son, Stephen, his wife, Sara, and two grandchildren, Max, 5, and Julia, 7, as well as members of the Board of Education and Superintendent Judith Ratner. After the presentation, her family joined her for a photo with the plaque and the mayor, then members of the Board of Education posed with her.
