BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Judith A. Rattner, Superintendent of the Berkeley Heights Public Schools since 2005, has announced her intention to retire from her position effective December 1, 2018.
Rattner began her employment in the Berkeley Heights School District in August 2000, when she was appointed to the position of Assistant Superintendent. She assumed the role of the District's Superintendent of Schools in December 2005. Her retirement in December will mark the conclusion of her 37-year career in public education.
Highly-regarded in local, state and national circles as an educational leader, Rattner has been honored for her outstanding efforts over the years by numerous professional organizations, including her recognition as the 2016 New Jersey "Superintendent of the Year" by the New Jersey Association of School Administrators and as the recipient of the 2018 "Distinguished Educator Award" from the New Jersey Council of Education.
In a letter addressed to the Berkeley Heights Public School Community, Rattner publicly thanked all school board members for giving her the opportunity to serve the Berkeley Heights and Mountainside communities and for supporting the decisions made during her administration.
She said, "Together, we have shaped a quality educational district; one that we can all be proud of."
She thanked the teachers and support staff members for their commitment and dedication.
Lastly, she thanked the students for welcoming her into their classrooms and their lives. "I have loved witnessing and celebrating your many talents and successes with you. You helped me see things in new ways, made me laugh, and never ceased to amaze and inspire me," said Rattner.
In this bittersweet moment for her she closed the letter by stating, "I am a better person for having known each of you."
