Building on a history of family recreation that began in 1964, The Berkeley Heights Community Pool seeks to create an aquatics facility for the residents of Berkeley Heights and the surrounding areas that is reasonably priced, is suitable for all ages, and promotes a safe and family friendly atmosphere. With the assistance of American Red Cross Lifeguard Professionals and the Summit Area YMCA, we seek to reduce and prevent drownings and keep patrons safe through responsive aquatics safety training. As of April 2017, the Summit Area YMCA adopted full management of the community with the pool taking on the name of the Berkeley Heights Community Pool at the YMCA. As per a contract agreed upon with the Township of Berkeley Heights, the Summit Area YMCA has agreed to construct a 36,000 square foot facility on the township-owned land and within the first six years of the lease, build an entire new outdoor pool facility. Since April 2017, the Summit Area YMCA has made several improvements to the community pool facility, such as re-surfacing the baby pool, improving the main building and restrooms, added a staff room for staff members, and provides deck and lounge chairs for all members.
