BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Autumn Lake Healthcare at Berkeley Heights opened its doors to invite the community and their healthcare partners to visit for an evening of friendly Bingo.

Let's face it, when entering a long-term care facility, what residents miss is the sense of a larger community and the intergenerational relationships. Contact between community members and nursing home residents contribute to the well-being and physical health of the residents. Autumn Lake recognizes this and continually opens their doors to invite community groups inside their home.

Community Bingo, organized by Cathy Balsamo, an activities coordinator at Autumn Lake, is one example of how Autumn Lake Healthcare initiates this intergenerational contact for their residents. Balsamo, along with her co-workers, create an inviting atmosphere that exudes loving care with much fun and laughter.

Along with the rewarding fun of interacting in an intergenerational activity, the players enjoyed a buffet of sandwiches and desserts. Many players won prizes of gift cards to local businesses and a lucky player went home with the iPad grand prize.

Call Cathy Balsamo at (908)897-1000 to learn more about utilizing the community room at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Berkeley Heights for your next function.

And Over Here is the Dining Hall 2

My very first job in admissions was while I was still an undergraduate myself as a tour guide.  Very early on they indoctrinated us with some tricks of the trade.  It’s a dining hall, not a cafeteria.  A residence hall, not a dorm.  If you have to divulge some negative bit of information, sandwich it between two positives.  There were instructions for glossing over ...
