SUMMIT, NJ - Gov. Livingston lost a 3-1 battle in Monday's torrential rain to neighboring rival Summit Hilltoppers in Summit.
The game was evenly matched during the first half as the players battled each other and the elements, but Summit grabbed the advantage with a goal a minute before halftime.
The second half was again a hard-fought affair and GL equalized through a fine strike from sophomore Ethan Proper. Both teams traded chances before Summit regained the lead on a well-worked play down the right.
With five minutes to go GL thought they had once again leveled things when Proper fired a shot past the keeper, but some fine last-ditch defending saw the ball cleared off the line. Moments later the Hilltoppers took advantage of GL pushing forward to seal the game with a third goal fired in at the near post.
Andre Perez Santalla recorded 8 saves in the loss.
The Highlanders are now 2-2 on the season and face local rivals New Providence on Thursday at home at 4 p.m.
