CRANFORD, NJ - The Gov. Livingston boys varsity soccer team traveled to Memorial Field in Cranford looking to rebound from their loss to Union on Thursday.
The last time these two teams faced off it was a very close game with GL claiming the win on penalty kicks in the second round of the County Championship.
After a close first 20 minutes, the Highlanders took the lead when Jamiel Saenz found space at the far post to head home Ethan Proper's cross.
Goalkeeper Connor Bigelow made a couple of key saves to keep Cranford out and then GL doubled its advantage with Joey Bonetti scrambling to keep the ball in play and giving Proper a simple tap in.
The second half the Highlanders controlled much of the play and quickly added to their tally when Ben Grimes' shot deflected right to Proper who calmly slotted home his second, and the Highlander's third. Ten minutes later it was four as Kevin Rodriguez scored his first goal of the season.
Cranford pulled back a consolation goal when they were awarded a penalty late in the period but it was was not enough and GL wrapped up a decisive 4-1 win.
