CLARK, NJ - The Governor Livingston Highlanders boys soccer team fell to the Johnson Crusaders, 2-1, in a match under the lights Monday night.
It would prove to be a defensive battle as both offenses applied pressure early. The Crusaders struck first when Liam Deacy connected with fellow senior Michael DeMarco for the goal in the 16th minute.
Governor Livingston goalie Jake Topor put forth a valiant effort, keeping the Highlanders within one headed into halftime. He would finish the game with 14 saves.
After regrouping at the half, the Highlanders returned with three shots in the first ten minutes. However, the intensity was thwarted when Johnson's Liam Deacy netted a goal in the 56th minute.
Governor Livingston's lone goal was scored by Josiah Crawford off a direct kick in the 67th minute.
Next, the Highlanders take on next door rivals New Providence Pioneers, home at Snyder Field Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
