BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The Berkeley Heights Downtown Beautification Committee (DBC) invites artists of all ages to submit a depiction of the current Berkeley Heights Municipal Complex. The winning design will be portrayed on Township’s 2017 Commemorative Ornament to be sold at town events this fall. Proceeds from the sale of ornaments will support the Committee’s work.
Artists can work in the medium that they prefer—illustration, photo, or painting—to commemorate the building that has served the town so well since 1939. The winning artist will be featured in a press release announcing the contest results and in other publicity associated with the sale of the ornaments.
Artists should submit their entries by June 13 at the Municipal Building.
Christin Babic, member of the DBC, said: “We are so proud to be a part of a wonderful community that supports the arts and our downtown area. We’re excited that the Ornament Design Contest will bring residents together and showcase our local artists. And we hope the Contest becomes a new annual tradition.”
Last year, the watercolor of the Berkeley Heights train station created by resident and former DBC member, Kerry Blasch, was featured on ornaments and magnets. That initiative raised more than $3,600 for the DBC’s work. The proceeds from this year’s sale will be earmarked to improve the streetscape in downtown Berkeley Heights.
