BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The Berkeley Heights Fire Department responded to a garage fire on Magnum Court in Berkeley Heights Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. The cause of fire is undetermined at this time. 

The fire was reported by a neighbor because occupants were not home, said Deputy Chief Jim Hopkins. "Firefighters had to force entry into the garage to extinguish fire," he said. 

Firefighters from Tower-1 led by Lieutenant Kyle Robbins with assistance from Firefighters from New Providence rescued a cat and a dog from the home which had a smoke condition inside.

Fire was contained to the garage. The pets were unharmed and turned over to the homeowner.

A firefighter sustained a minor injury to the hand and was treated at the scene by the Berkeley Heights Volunteer Rescue Squad. A civilian was also treated and released at the scene.

Other Fire Department's assisting were Stirling, Watchung, Chatham Twp, Fanwood and Mountainside.
