TRENTON, NJ – Cheryl Stowell of Berkeley Heights has recently joined the government relations firm of Tonio Burgos and Associates, Inc. as vice president of legislative affairs. In this role,Stowell will be responsible for work relating to client development and public relations matters, as well as client regulatory and legislative concerns. She works directly with the firm’s president in relation to the firm’s operations in the state of New Jersey.
Stowell has more than 15 years of experience establishing and maintaining successful working relationships with legislative and executive officials and staff on the local, state and federal levels. She is accomplished in lobbying, direct and grassroots advocacy, strategic planning and collaborative stakeholder development.
Prior to joining the firm, Stowell served as the director of government relations and communications for New Jersey SHARES (NJ SHARES), a position she held since 2006. During her time at NJ SHARES, she developed successful legislative outreach programs and established positive working relationships with state and federal district offices. Additionally, Stowell worked closely with Verizon New Jersey during her time with NJ SHARES coordinating the company’s Communications Lifeline program.
Before joining NJ SHARES, Stowell was employed by the Waterfront Commission of New York & New Jersey. She began her career in state government as chief of protocol for Governor Donald T. DiFrancesco, and also served as chief of staff to the First Lady. Prior to her time in government, Stowell served as public relations coordinator for the Association for Children of New Jersey.
