Ready, set, coach!

Resolved to volunteer this year? Well then lace up your sneakers and shake out your spirit fingers because Girls on the Run of New Jersey East is looking for volunteers ages 18 and older to coach one to two days a week. Running experience is not required!

Imagine the satisfaction and reward of helping not just one girl but 15 gain a stronger sense of identity, greater self-acceptance, a healthier body, and an understanding of what it means to be part of a team in just a couple of hours a week. Amidst conversations, giggles, energy cheers and games, you will witness transformational changes in both you and the girls.

Coaches are provided with training in August, a comprehensive, well-researched curriculum, and teaching materials that are being used by Girls on the Run in communities around the nation. Our coaches come from a wide variety of backgrounds: mothers, teachers, guidance counselors and other community members who value health and physical fitness.

Coaches lead lessons in empowerment, healthy decision making, gossiping, bullying, friendship, trustworthiness, body image, media influence, setting goals, and self-confidence.

Programs are held at local schools and parks, twice a week, immediately after school for an hour and 15 minutes for 10 weeks starting in September.

We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
