BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - In what has become an annual tradition, the choirs of the Westminster Presbyterian Church (directed by Michael Goetjen), Little Flower Church (directed by Liz Maneinelli), Voices of Praise (directed by Nicholas Micchelli) and Westminster Presbyterian Praise Band, along with other local musicians joined forces for a special holiday concert Thursday night at Westminster Presbyterian Church to start the Christmas season.
This "Night of Songs and Carols,” a Christmas Community Celebration, is in its fifth year. Each year, the free will offering is donated to a charitable cause. This year the offering was donated to the lighting of the new tree at Veterans Memorial Park. In years past, the donations supported the Veterans Memorial Park restoration project and the township's Nativity Scene.
In addition to the combined talents among the members of the music groups, the program included performances by the following local musicians: youth students of Kenneth Sack -- Nicholas Alapali, Emily Shannon Conroy and Luke Mariak; Donna Boyd, Jackie Romankow, Andrew Cunningham, Susan Gieser, Annie Hassen and Lucia Hassen.
The following video vignettes are sure to put people in the Christmas spirit.
"Coventry Carol" performed by Andrew Cunningham, handbells; Susan Gieser, piano
"Candlelight Christmas Canon" by Combined Choirs; Lucia and Annie Hassen, violins, Nick Micchelli, piano
