Eye Bank to Honor Richard Zimmermann and Steve Domovich as Visionaries

The Lions Eye Bank of New Jersey (LEBNJ) will recognize Richard Zimmermann, PDG, and Steve Domovich, PDG, as Visionaries of the Year on April 24, 2013, when the organization hosts its annual Visionary of the Year Award Dinner. This celebration, which takes place at L’Affaire Fine Catering in Mountainside, aims to honor the special relationship between the Eye Bank and New Jersey Lions Clubs.

“Anyone is welcome to attend the dinner, of course,” explains Margaret Chaplin, the Eye Bank’s Executive Director. “But the presentations and speakers will definitely be geared toward a Lions audience.”

Zimmermann and Domovich were selected as Visionaries because of their exceptional commitment to eye, organ and tissue donation and the Eye Bank’s mission of sight restoration and preservation.

“Both Rich and Steve have worked tirelessly to promote eye donation,” says Chaplin. “They are wonderful allies in our quest to accomplish our mission.”

Steve, a member of the Hunterdon Hills Lions Club since 1968, currently serves as Secretary of the LEBNJ Board of Directors. Though term limits will end his board tenure in June, he leaves behind a legacy of service that will be an example for future board members for years to come.

Rich, a charter member of the Laurel Springs Lions Club since 1980, is a Trustee on the board of the Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley and editor of the NJ Lion. In 2009 and 2010, he spearheaded an initiative for proclamations from the Governor’s office recognizing both Eye Banks and March as National Eye Donor month.

“We’re so fortunate to have Rich and Steve championing our cause,” says Chaplin. “I can’t think of two more deserving gentlemen to receive this award.”

Tickets to attend the Visionary of the Year Award Dinner are $75 per person. The evening’s festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. For more information, or to purchase tickets, contact Cathy Wasner at 732‐382‐3060, ext.7278, or cwasner@lebnj.org.

The Lions Eye Bank of New Jersey is a charitable, not‐for‐profit organization dedicated to the preservation and restoration of sight. It recovers, evaluates and distributes human eye tissue for transplantation. It also supports research into the causes and cures of blinding eye conditions, promotes donation awareness through public and professional education, and provides humanitarian aid to people in need of corneal transplantation throughout the world.
