Demian and Amy Boroff have announced today that their new company, Be Craftful, will be the second retailer to occupy Fanwood Crossing,  a new retail and residential development in their home town of Fanwood, New Jersey.  The business is the first endeavor together for the couple that have lived in Fanwood for over five years with their six year old daughter, Aliette.  Be Craftful is a children’s retail store specializing in personalized and customized gifts and hosts a drop-in craft “pit” where children and their families can choose a craft project to create, gift and giggle.   Monthly events for moms, high school students, and parent’s night’s out will be offered ensuring that there’s something to satisfy everyone’s creative side.    The venue will also host special events and birthday parties.

Entrepreneurship is familiar to Amy, as previous to launching Be Craftful, she served as a Director for Junior Achievement of New Jersey, a non-profit organization that educates youth on entrepreneurship, financial literacy and work readiness.   Demian has extensive experience in Operations Management and Customer Service and can be credited with the inception of Be Craftful.  “Ali’s craft room can be intimidating, but it’s a lot easier to tackle a project when you have a structured plan that enables you to be creative.  Amy’s Elementary Education degree has resulted in a lot of meaningful gifts that were made at home.  After attending a craft fair and then wondering what to do the rest of the day, a light bulb went off,” said Demian.    Being in Fanwood was very important to the couple as there are few indoor venues for families and they also feel strongly about community investment.   “It wasn’t just a great idea because I love arts and crafts and seeing someone smile when Ali gives them a handmade gift, it was a great idea because it filled a gap in our hometown and made sense from a business perspective,” shared Amy.

The store’s doors will open at 250 South Avenue, Fanwood in June, 2013 just in time to provide a creative space indoors for those hot summer days!

Invest Like a Tortoise -- Not Like a Hare

Aesop’s “The Tortoise and the Hare” is a perfect metaphor for the way people go about investing their money. As you recall in the fable, the hare brags about his ability to beat the tortoise and is overly confident about winning. In the investment world, the hare is someone who thinks he or she is great at selecting “winners” and avoiding “losers.” The ...
