BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Police have a female in custody after she allegedly fled from a vehicle she crashed near the Westminster Presbyterian Church at the corner of Plainfield and Mountain avenues.

According to reports, the New Jersey State Police officers tried to stop the car, but the driver sped away, then crashed.

The female in custody originally identified her boyfriend as the driver of the crashed vehicle. The male she identified as the suspect supposedly has a lengthy criminal record including being wanted for possession of a concealed dangerous weapon. However, NJSP later reported the girlfriend fabricated the story and she was the driver.

More information will be made available later.
