Fencers, from beginners to advanced levels can perfect their skill at the Berkeley Heights YMCA Fencing Camps this summer for ages 6 through 16. Each camp week offers a small group class size at very affordable prices, $175 per week for Y members, and $210 per week for non-members.
Beginner Fencing, for ages 6 to 12 runs July 30 to August 3, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. This session will teach “fencing basics and form, fencing sparring and footwork,” All three weapons will demonstrated. Students will be given “hands on” instruction including footwork, blade work, and basic defense.
Beginner/Intermediate Fencing, for ages 7 to 14 runs July 23 to July 27, from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm. This session will reinforce “fencing basics and form, fencing sparring and intermediate footwork,” Students with prior exposure to the sport will benefit by the challenging footwork and “combat” tactics.
Intermediate/Advanced Fencing, for ages 10 to 16 runs July 16 to July 20, from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm. This session will be geared to the advanced fencer. This session will emphasize bouting, physical training and advanced weapons techniques. (fencing glove recommended).
All camps are taught by Governor Livingston High School Fencing Team graduates, and take place at the Berkeley Heights YMCA, 550 Springfield Avenue, www.theSAY.org.
