BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The Lady Highlanders easily won at home against Montclair Kimberly Academy (MKA) last Thursday, clinching in Round 2 at 14-3 and finishing with a score of 22-5.
Sabre and epee squads both dominated at 8-1, and the foil squad was 6-3.
Sophomore epee Emily Berkow won all three of her bouts. Sabres Tamar Novik, a sophomore, and freshman Cierra Blair saw their first wins this season. Sophomore sabre Michelle Hom fenced her first bout.
GL boys also earned a win against MKA, clinching at the top of Round 3 at 14-5 and finishing with a score of 18-9.
Sabres were 7-2, foils 5-4, and epees 6-3.
Sophomore sabre Alex Beke picked up a win in his first bout of the season. Freshmen sabre Jayson Cantor and foilist Elijah Bove fenced their first bouts.
Gov. Livingston Vs. Millburn
Last Tuesday, Lady Highlanders lost by just one point to Millburn High School, 14-13. Sabre squad went 7-2 with Heather Jannuzzi winning all three of her bouts. Foilists and epees were both 3-6.
Boys held on until the 25th bout, when Millburn clinched 14-11. Final score was 16-11. GL foilists were 5-4. Sabre and epee squads were both 3-6.
Next, GL faces Oratory Prep/Kent Place on Tuesday, Jan. 16, and Newark Academy on Thursday, Jan. 18 -- both meets will take place at home (Columbia Middle School).
