BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Gov. Livingston boys fencing team was dealt their second loss in a 12-10 battle against Montclair Kimberly. The Lady Highlanders defeated the young Montclair Kimberly girls fencing team 12-3.

Monclair Kimberly only fielded 5 fencers as they work to rebuild their girls team [they didn't field a team at all two years ago].  Gov. Livingston won six bouts each in Sabre  and Epee and MKA won 3 foil bouts.

On the boys side, the Gov. Livingston fell behind early, with a coming just short of a comeback.  GL won the first sabre bouts and then lost the next sxi in a row to fall behind 6-2.  GL then won four of the next five to close to  7-6, then lost four of the next five to finish  the second round of bouts down 11-7.

Again, GL's top Sabre and Foil fencers won three of the next four bouts, to close behind MKA 12-10. With the match on the line at 13-10, freshmen fencers Matt Zhao and John Walsh each won their bouts to narrow in on MKA 13-12.  But MKA's Jason Thompson, who finished second in  the state epee tournament last year, was able to close out the bout against GL's Chris Friedlander and send GL to their second 14-13 loss of the week.

What's Hot and What's Not

Summer is a great time to take a step back, sip a cool beverage, and take a look at what’s going on in the world of college admissions.  Departments use the summer to evaluate how their year went and plan on any changes they want to make for the fall.  Did they over-enroll? Under-enroll?  What application materials were useful to them?  Which were redundant or time ...
