Fleet Week 2017: Marines Land at Millburn High School

MILLBURN, NJ  – Marines participating in Fleet Week New York 2017 will fly in and land four Marine Corps aircraft at Millburn High School, Millburn, N.J., on May 25.

The aircrafts are scheduled to land at 10:00am. The Marines will then disembark the aircraft. Once the aircraft is shut down the Marines will set up for a static display. Marines will then embark the aircraft and leave approximately at 3:00pm. After landing on the high school’s auxiliary field, the Marines with their personal weapons/gear, a military working dog, and an explosives ordnance demolition robot will be available for a static display.

This will allow kids from the local high schools and everyone from the surrounding area to see Marine Corps aircraft and Marine equipment. This a unique and exciting experience for the Marines involved with the events and we are looking forward to this wonderful opportunity to interact with the local population. We hope this will be a safe, informative, and entertaining experience for all in attendance.

Below is additional information on the four aircraft.

MV-22 Osprey has the maneuverability of a helicopter and the ability to carry 24 Marine combat troops twice as fast and five times farther than previous helicopters; the Osprey greatly enhances the advantages Marines have over their enemies.

The CH-53 is the heavy-lift helicopter of the Marine Corps and can carry a 26,000-pound Light Armored Vehicle, 16 tons of cargo 50 miles and back, or enough combat-loaded Marines to lead an assault or humanitarian operation.

The UH-1 Huey helicopter uses its versatility, to re-supply the troops on the ground, inserting and extracting patrols, and can mount a variety of weapons on the aircraft.

The AH-1 Super Cobra helicopters form the backbone of the Marine Corps’ air-ground task force and act as on-call close air support platforms for Marines under fire. Cobras are also used for ground attack coordination, with pilots trained to call in artillery or mortars on positions while orbiting above the battlefield.

Important note: The event is open to the community from 1:30-3:00 pm only.

You Want a Check for How Much!
