BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ -  Governor Livingston Football lost its home opener against Warren Hills on Saturday, September 14, by a final score of 24-6. The Highlanders were neck and neck with the Blue Streaks in the second half, but costly first quarter mistakes were too much for GL to overcome.

Prior to the game, the Highlander football team invited both the Marching Band and Cheerleaders to breakfast to thank them in advance for all of their amazing support throughout the season.  "Hopefully this is a first annual breakfast and a tradition that we can continue going forward before our first home game of the year," said head football coach Dan Guyton.

Governor Livingston started the game rough, allowing three rushing touchdowns in the first quarter, two coming off of turnovers. Both teams were scoreless in the second quarter, and the Highlanders went to the locker room facing a 21 point deficit.

The Highlanders entered the second half determined to get on the board and get back into the game. After a big third down conversion from junior quarterback Victor Chait to senior tight end Peyton Hopack, junior running back Jayson Schmidt dove into the end zone for the Highlander touchdown early in the third quarter to make the score 21-6. The GL defense was superb in the second half, allowing only a field goal. However, the offense was unable to convert in the red zone late in the game, giving Warren Hills the 24-6 win.

Chait went ten for sixteen with eighty one passing yards for the Highlanders. Schmidt finished the game with eighteen carries for eighty one yards and a rushing touchdown, catching three passes for twenty yards in the process. Hopeck added three catches for thirty yards. On defense for the Highlanders, junior Matt Murowski brought down sixteen tackles. Sophomore Joe Riggi also contributed on defense with a total of eight tackles.

Governor Livingston now have a record of 0-2 and look to come back from defeat with a win against Rahway on the road on Friday.
