BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The varsity football field at Governor Livingston High School will have a new look when the Highlanders open their 2013 campaign in the middle of September.

While GL retained many key contributors from last years team, including five returning seniors, the Highlanders have a new leader at the top, first-year head coach Dan Guyton.

Guyton is the third head coach to preside over Gov. Livingston in the last three years.

"We are very excited for the upcoming season," Guyton said. "The players have been working extremely hard and hopefully having a lot of fun as well.  We've put the emphasis on the importance of Family, Academics and being a great teammate and person."

On the field, the big emphasis during training camp was put on defense.

Seniors Ryan Jennings and Anthony Amatucci lead the Highlanders into the 2013 season, while juniors Alex Boyd and John Wills look to continue making a name for themselves this year.

"Support for the team from the parents, school district and Berkeley Heights/Mountainside community has been awesome," Guyton said.  The enthusiasm and excitement around GL Football has been building and we can't wait for the season to start."

The Highlanders open the year against Scotch Plains-Fanwood on Sept.12. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Governor Livingston High School.
