BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - It was “rematch week” for the GL Golf team as they faced two teams that defeated the Highlanders earlier in the season, Scotch Plains-Fanwood (11-3), as well as the Union County Champion Westfield Blue Devils (8-2). Westfield is currently the number six ranked team in NJ.
First up was Scotch Plains-Fanwood. After losing by eleven strokes to SPF earlier in the season, GL was hopeful their winning streak would continue with a vengeful win, but Jimmy Harcourt and Louis Daniele from SPF were too strong on this day. SPF was able to pull out another win over the Highlanders by seven strokes with a score of 165-172. Brent Faecher had the low score for GL at 40 and Quinn Haddad had a strong match posting a score of 42.
Next up was the best team in Union County and one of the top in NJ, the Westfield Blue Devils. Again, GL was looking for revenge as they lost by only one stroke when they played back in April. History repeated itself and the Highlanders lost again by only one stroke. Jarrod Orioli of Westfield had a great round of 37 to lead the Blue Devils. The Highlanders low round was posted by Ed Sot with a score of 41 and strong contributions were made by Carmine Cioffi and Quinn Haddad, both scoring 42.
GL’s record now stands at 6-5.
