NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The Highlander boys swim team posted a hard fought victory over New Providence, 88-82, Tuesday night at Berkeley Aquatic Club in New Providence.  

Gov. Livingston (GL) took the lead from the start in the 200 Medley Relay.  The team of Jack O’Halloran, Chris Rampaul-Pino, Declan Feely, and Killian Quinn finished first in 1:45.32.  Senior Co-captain, Matt Zarrelli kept things going for GL winning the 200 freestyle in 1:53.79. 

The Pioneer's Evan Kavanagh (200 IM) and David Paris (50 free) took first in their respective races to close the score to 32-30 in favor of the Highlanders.  Rampaul-Pino and David Martinez, both freshmen, went 1-2 in the 100 butterfly to push the lead back to 10 points. Jason Paprocki followed that up with another GL win in the 100 freestyle in a time of 53.01.

In the 200 freestyle relay, the Highlander men took first again.  The team of Quinn, Feely, Duytam Vu and Jason Wong finished the race in 1:36.99 seconds.  O’Halloran then pushed the lead out of reach with a victory in the 100 backstroke. 

Other first place finishes for New Providence include:  Ed Wan in 500 free (5:07.60), John Goceljak (1:07.92) in 100 breaststroke, and the team of Zeran, Cahill, Wan and Kavanagh in 400 freestyle relay (3:33.57).

.“Losing twice to them last year left a bad taste in our mouth, we wanted to come out and establish ourselves early, it felt great getting the win” Matt Zarrelli said. “They won the Section last year and our goal all along is to win the Section this year.” 

The Highlander boys team is now 2-0 and swim against Union on Thursday evening at home at 7:45 p.m. New Providence will face Oratory Prep on Thursday at home with a 3:15 p.m. start.
