CALDWELL, NJ - The Gov. Livingston Highlander Marching Band has won the Tournament of Bands Region X Championship on Sunday at West Essex High School.
Under the direction of Band Director Nicholas O'Sullivan, the 47 members of the Highlander Marching Band performed their field show "Seven." The band took home, for the second consecutive year, the Group II Open Class championship with a score of 92.7, and received special caption awards for High Music and Best Visual.
"Our class level is pretty difficult," said O'Sullivan. "There are many good and competitive bands in Group II Open; it has been and continues to be a powerhouse group."
Group II allows for up to 50 musicians and 50 color guard which puts more pressure on us to succeed, he said. "Our students are very committed to achieving the highest level of performance that they can. I am very proud of them and their commitment to musical and visual excellence."
Next up for the Highlander Marching Band is the 2016 TOB Atlantic Coast Championships in Hershey, PA on October 30th, where they are seeded fifth out of 20 bands competing in Group II Open Class category.
