Gov. Livingston Highlander Boys Swimming Win First Round of State Championships

WARREN, NJ - In their first round of Boys Swimming NJSIAA Central, Group C Championships Swimming state championships, Governor Livingston boys arrived at the Morris-Union Jointure pool with a purpose. They came to swim, and swim they did. The Highlander boys topped Haddon with a score of 100-70.

The 200 Medley Relay of Ellis Sartorio, Chris Rampaul-Pino, David Martinez, and Jason Paprocki grabbed first place with a time of 1:43.06. Dylan Wallace jumped into 2nd place with a 1:55.26 in the 200 Free, followed by teammate Jimmy Pitingolo in third. Martinez took second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.84. Bret O'Brien followed him in third place. A spectacular first and second place sweep in the 50 free came from Duytam Vu (:22.94) and Paprocki (:23.23), followed by freshman Rafe Barnum in fourth with a time of :24.52. The 1/2 sweep continued in the 100 Fly, with Rampaul-Pino taking first with a time of :58.40 followed by Martinez at 1:00.05. Vu and Pitingolo came back with a close 2/3 finish with times of :52.76 and :52.88, respectively. Sartorio swam the 500 free, taking third place behind second place finisher Wallace. The 200 Free Relay team, composed of Paprocki, Vu, Pitingolo, and Martinez finished in first place with a time of 1:32.56. Sartorio and O'Brien took second and third place in the 100 Back, followed by Paprocki and Rampaul-Pino finishing with a 1/2 on the 100 Breast. Rounding out the meet, the 400 Free Relay teams of Pitingolo, Sartorio, Wallace and Vu took second place, followed by Alan Du, Barnum, James Lenahan, and O'Brien in third.

As Head Coach Closs looks ahead, the boys will need to step up their game as they face off in the second round of against Rumson on Thursday, Feb. 8 at Neptune Aquatics Center.
