BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ -  This would have been the second season on the varsity team for Gov. Livingston senior infielder Vinny Mellusi. "Vinny would have been an important piece to the puzzle for this year's team," said Gov. Livingston head baseball coach Chris Roof.

"Vinny isn't afraid of the big moment in games, he embraces them," Roof said. "Vinny is a throwback player, a player who's both blue collar and tough as nails. I’m going to miss Vinny and I want to wish him nothing but the best in the future."

As a freshman, Mellusi was part of the JV team that brought home the Union County Championship with a 6-1 victory over Cranford. This is a favorite high school highlight for Mellusi. "When we won the JV County Championship back in my freshman year -- I remember we all dog piled near the mound and everyone was so happy," he said.

The following season, as a sophomore, Mellusi was a huge part of the JV team that went to the Union County Tournament final, said Roof.

"Wearing the GL uniform is an honor. You have to earn that," said Mellusi. "Everyone on the team worked their whole lives for this and when we got there it felt amazing."

TAPinto: What is your favorite youth highlight?

Vinny: My favorite youth highlight is when I hit my first home run ever on my birthday. It was a really special moment for me and I will remember it forever.

TAPinto: How are you doing during this period of COVID-19 isolation?

Vinny: I’ve been very bored during the isolation. I wish I were out on the diamond with my teammates playing the game we love and just having fun. I miss seeing them and having laughs with them. We have made so many memories that will last a lifetime.

TAPinto: What will be the first thing you do once restrictions are lifted?

Vinny: The first thing I’ll do once isolation is over is just hangout with my friends and try to have as much fun with them as possible before we leave for college.
