Gov. Livingston's Vanriele Wins Union Country Cross Country Championship; Girls Team Places 3rd

Freshman Victoria Vanriele wins Union County Cross Country Crown; girls team places third for Gov. Livingston.

ROSELLE PARK, NJ - Gov. Livingston Freshman Victoria Vanriele surged away from the pack during the last mile to win the Union County Cross Championships on October 26, in historic Warinanco Park, in Roselle, NJ.

Vanriele completed the 3.19 mile course in 19:21, six seconds in front of her nearest competitor, and a new personal best time by nearly a minute. This is the first time since Megs DiDario in 2002 that a GL runner has won the championship.

The GL girls medaled in 3rd place, behind perennial powerhouses Westfield and Union Catholic, and ahead of local rival Summit.  The girls had their fastest ever average team time at Warinanco Park, 20:41, an improvement of 1:21 minutes from the Conference Championships. In addition to Vanriele, the girls team included freshman MacKenzie Lloyd ( 17th in 20:48), senior Danielle Petryk (18th in 20:52), senior Amanda Johnson (24th in 21:10), sophomore Evelyn Doskoch (27th in 21:14), junior Pascal Youssef (43rd in 22:21) and senior Jamie Diamond (46th in 22:33).

The boys lowered their average time by 44 seconds from the Conference Championships.

Success was also seen in the JV and Freshmen races with senior Amanda McElroy medaling in the JV Girls race in 6th place in a time of 21:31.  Daniel Feeley placed 8th in the Freshman race with a time of 13:12 for the shorter 2.1 mile course.

The Varsity Cross Country teams will compete next in the Central New Jersey Sectional Championships on November 5, 2016 at Thompson Park in Jamesburg, NJ.
