WARREN, NJ - The Governor Livingston men's swimming team scored 71.5 points through eleven events, but came up short against Scotch Plains, which scored 98.5 points on Thursday night. The women's team scored 63 points through eleven events, losing to the Scotch Plains girls team, which scored 107 points.
The men's team was down 47 to 77 going into the last three races at the Morris-Union County Jointure Pool on Thursday night. They were awarded three first place finishes in the final three events.
Governor Livingston's Greg Fennell finished first in the 100 meter back stroke race and Jon Drori placed first in the 100 meter breast stroke race.
The final event, the 400 meter free stroke relay, saw an exciting finish between Governor Livingston's Nick Rubino and Scotch Plain's Keith Monteiro. With several fans cheering him on, Rubino won the relay for his team by .13 seconds
Other notable finishes for Governor Livingston were Greg Fennell coming in first place in the 50 meter free stroke race, Harry Hall finishing second in both the 200 and 500 meter free style race, Nicandro Donadio finishing second in the 100 meter free style, Nick Rubino finishing second in the 200 meter IM event and Jon Drori finishing second in the 100 meter fly race.
The women's team finished strong in the final two events. Abby Pires was awarded first place in the 100 meter breast stroke race and Christina Westphal, Cassie Kinney, Tory Greeley and Jen Leonard secured first place in the 400 meter free style race. The women's team was awarded six second place finishes through the eleven events.
The Governor Livingston boys and girls swim team will next face off against Westfield High School on Tuesday, December 7th at 2:30 p.m. in Westfield.
