UNION, NJ - Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli won the endorsement of the Union County GOP for governor at the Union County Republican Convention.  He received 113 votes to Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno's 92 votes.  Both candidates arrived before “gavel down” and did their best to meet as many of the voters as possible.  No other gubernatorial candidate’s name was put in nomination.  All candidates for other positions received their nomination by acclimation.

These conventions are annual events for both parties and a critical part of the democratic process.  The people participating help determine the party’s candidate for governor and who also gets the line (first line on a ballot) for the state senate and assembly races as well as the county race for sheriff, state committee woman and man, and three freeholder candidates. Next year, the convention will focus on races for the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives.  There will also be up to three candidates running for freeholder.  This convention was held in the Stem building at Kean University.
